Sprint cyclist Nicholas Paul left yesterday for Argyle, Switzerland, for the 2017 track training camp which starts tomorrow. It will be the second stint at the camp hosted by the sport’s go verning body, UCI.
Paul, 18, was invited by the UCI to the camp late last year after winning gold in the sprint at the Junior Pan Am Championship held in Trinidad in August last year.
And during his stint
in Switzerland in November, he captured gold in the elite match sprint, and three times lowered his personal best in the Flying 200m. Those efforts, plus his success at the Pan Am Juniors, made Paul the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s (TTOC’s) Junior Sportsman of the Year for 2016.
Since his return from Switzerland in December, Paul has been training at the National Cycling Centre in Balmain, Couva, under his local coach, Anthony Sellier.
Paul’s stint in Switzerland is being funded by the TTOC and the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago.
